Guide
Throw away your pan – or have it recoated?
Food sticks, the coating scratches or peels: that is when most pans end up in the bin. Yet usually only the coating is worn out – the aluminium or stainless steel body lasts for many more years.
When is a coated pan worn out?
Every kitchen knows the three signs: food sticks despite fat, the coating is scratched or peeling, or the pan has been badly overheated and discoloured. In all three cases it is the coating that is worn out – not the pan.
Recoating is only not worth it if the base is badly warped or a flammable handle is permanently fixed. If in doubt, send us a photo and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth it.
Disposing of a pan properly in Switzerland
Pans do not belong in the household rubbish bag. In most municipalities the collection point or recycling centre takes them with scrap metal. Unscrew removable plastic or wooden handles first. The exact rules are in your municipality’s waste calendar.
The better alternative
Recoat instead of throwing away
Like new tyres on proven rims: we remove the old coating completely and apply a new three-layer coating in professional kitchen quality – PFOA-free, made regionally in Winterthur and with a one-year guarantee. That uses over 80 % fewer resources than buying new.
- Recoating from CHF 39 per pan
- Pickup by Swiss Post at your home, with our reusable box
- Back after 4–6 weeks, ready to cook
Need a pan right away?
Take a pan that is already recoated from stock – and send your old one back to us in the same box. We recoat it and it finds a new kitchen. See pans in stock.
And if you really don’t need the pan any more?
Donate it: write “RePan Spende” on the parcel (postage is paid by the sender). Your pan gets a second life in another kitchen.
